Over the last three (3) years our team has been working hard on the stage 1 Parramatta Light Rail works, a light rail that will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.
Last week we were thrilled to learn that the Infrastructure Works for this project received the highest ever Infrastructure Sustainability v1.2 As-Built rating awarded to any project since the in the history of the rating tool.
It is no small feat achieving a score of 104 points of the 110 points available and it's credit to Deborah Romero (the Project assessor), and to the whole Project team who worked hard to drive and deliver industry-defining sustainability outcomes.
Perspektiv was engaged to provide sustainability management shortly following the project award in 2019. Principal Consultant, Josh Key was promptly deployed providing on ground support as a fully integrated Joint Venture team member. He was tasked with process establishment and sustainability integration across design, procurement and construction establishment.
Josh’s focus then shifted into a mentoring role as he handed over construction related requirements to staff member, Deborah Romero. This allowed for Perspektiv to focus on the design reviews, client reporting and iterative Life Cycle Assessment modelling undertaken for each design stage.
Perspektiv’s LCA drove and documented the following project achievements:
Energy impact reduction of 33.8% with key initiatives such as the use of dimmer functions on LED luminaires;
Water use reduction of 22% using a subsoil drip irrigation system with soil moisture sensors and
28% material use reduction through re-use of heavy rail elements, MSF in concrete and recycled materials in concrete, asphalt, and aggregates.
The cumulative impact of all the initiatives has achieved a carbon dioxide output reduction of over 76,000 tonnes.
